GOLF COURSES & GOLF COURSE PROPERTIES ON OAHU (Part Three)
/Welcome Back to Part III of our Series on Golf Course Homes on Oahu! As mentioned previously, Oahu, Hawaii is a great location for golf lovers! There are over 40 public, municipal and private courses on Oahu to choose from. No matter where you live, there is at least one golf course nearby. We return now with information about golf courses and golf course communities in Leeward or West Oahu, which includes Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Waianae areas.
There a many more golfing lifestyle opportunities as you continue on to the Southwest and West side of Oahu, in both Ewa Beach and Kaoplei. Like the other areas, there are no golf communities, where membership is part of homeownership. These West Oahu/Leeward areas are former sugar plantations and feature most of the newer residential subdivisions on Oahu. There are also neighborhoods of older homes, built 1960 and earlier, including Historic Ewa Villages. Primary new home developments in the area are by DR Horton and Gentry Homes (Ewa by Gentry), and Haseko who developed Ocean Pointe and is who is still developing the Hoakalei Resort area. Ko’olina was developed in the mid-1980s, by local realtor and developer, Herbert Horita and his Japanese investment partner, Takeshi Sekiguchi.
Ewa Beach
Ewa Beach probably has the most prolific inventory of golf courses and golf course properties on the island of Oahu. There are several golf courses in Ewa Beach and living anywhere in Ewa Beach gives you easy access to them all. Only one golf country club is private (Hoakalei Country Club), and the rest are public (Hawaii Prince Golf Course, 360 Ewa Beach Country Club, Coral Creek Golf Club), with two municipal golf courses (West Loch Golf Course & Ewa Villages Golf Course), as well.
Hoakalei Country Club
The Hoakalei Country Club is a prestigious, private, members only club, in Ewa Beach and the only private club on this side of Oahu. Hoakalei Country Club has an 18-hole championship golf course, designed by professional golfer Ernie Els, who aimed to create a course that suited both amateurs and professionals. It's known for its challenging, risk-reward layout featuring numerous water features and bunkers, while also being designed to accommodate golfers of all skill levels. The course's strategic design takes trade winds into account, meaning it can play differently each day, and it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding Ewa plains and mountains. The club includes a clubhouse with luxurious amenities, dining options, and facilities for social events and fitness programs. View the Hoakalei Country Club Instagram.
The Ocean Pointe and Hoakalei developments, mentioned above, have many homes in the immediate area of this country club and golf course, many with some golf course frontage and/or views, but membership is not an automatic benefit of living in the community. Ocean Pointe condos currently range from the $600K’s to the $800K’s. Ocean Pointe single family homes currently available range from $900K’s to $1.4M. Hoakalei single family homes in Ka Makana and Kipupa currently range from about $1M to $2.3M. Hoakalei also just introduced new homes in Kuapapa, called Kekainani, which range from about $2.5M to $3.4M and feature ocean views over Oneula Beach. Hoakalei also has townhomes from the high $700K’s to the low $800K’s.
Hawaii Prince Golf Club
The Hawaii Prince Golf Club and course is a public golf course in Ewa Beach. The Hawaii Prince Golf Club is a unique 27-hole golf course on Oahu, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, featuring three interchangeable nines (A, B, C) that offer a variety of challenges. Situated on 270 acres with stunning views of the Waianae Mountains, the course is known for its long fairways, numerous white sand bunkers, strategically placed lakes, and fast Bermuda grass greens. In addition to the championship course, it offers a practice facility, a clubhouse with a restaurant, and recently added a nine-hole par-3 course. View the Hawaii Prince Golf Club Facebook.
Many of the Ewa Gentry developments are nearby. In particular some with frontage are just North of the course and include Cypress Point, and Haleakea I and II by Ewa Gentry. These homes currently are selling in the $1.2M - $2.1M price range, with the pricier ones fronting the course. Ewa Gentry Sonoma and Prescott are also nearby and offer homes in the $900K - $1.3M range.
Just south of the course are some older neighborhoods of homes: Leeward Estates and old Ewa Beach. In Leeward Estates there are some homes fronting the course on Hanakahi Street and in old Ewa Beach on Hanaloa Street. Homes in these areas are in the $700K-$900K price range, providing some more affordable single family home options.
360° Ewa Beach Country Club
The 360° Ewa Beach Country Club, has a public golf course and facilities in Ewa Beach, just slightly Southeast of the Hawaii Prince Golf Club. A well-kept secret, hiding at the far end of the Ewa plains with the Waianae mountain range in the background, you get a unique experience from the very first shot as you tee off over the remains of a kūlanakauhale, or ancient Hawaiian fishing village. You will also be visited throughout your round by native species of birds including the ʻalae keʻokeʻo, ʻaukuʻu, and the endangered aeʻo. Opened in 1992, this Robin Nelson-designed championship golf course features rolling greens and lush fairways. The golf course design has features that are reminiscent of a traditional links-style layout, designed to take you away from the clubhouse on the front nine and return to the clubhouse on the inward nine. It is truly a unique and challenging layout for all playing abilities. Facilities include Restaurant Tombo which serves house-made pupus and local favorites created by Executive Chef Kiyohisa Hirano. View the 360 Ewa Beach Country Club Instagram.
Homes with frontage on the 360° Ewa Beach Country Club are very few, on Haiamu & Kauiki Streets, in the older “Ewa Beach” neighborhood. This neighborhood is sandwiched in between the Ewa Beach Country Club and the Hawaii Prince Golf Club, making the old Ewa Beach neighborhood an excellent and more affordable location for golf lovers. Price for homes in the old Ewa Beach neighborhood aer not part of a planned community and can vary quite a bit. Prices can go from about $600K, for a 812 sf fixer built in 1940 and on a 5,000 sf lot, to ~$2.7M for a beachfront, 4,000+ sf home built in 2008. Most homes, however, are in the $700K-$1.5M range.
Coral Creek Golf Course
Coral Creek Golf Course, designed by Robin Nelson in 1999, is an 18-hole, par-72, public golf course in Ewa Beach, Oahu. The Coral Creek Golf Course is known for its unique layout woven through natural coral rock and lush Seashore Paspalum turf. It offers a challenging yet fair experience for golfers of all skill levels, featuring water hazards like a 30-foot waterfall and several lakes, and is noted for its well-maintained conditions and friendly staff. The course also includes a full practice facility, a driving range, and Pueo's Restaurant for dining and socializing after your round. View the Coral Creek Golf Course Instagram.
Notable residential developments in the area include Huelani (Ewa-Gentry), IMO one of the nicer developments in the area, which has many golf course fronting units (on Lukini St and Launahele Place) and is the only gated community in Ewa Beach. Other areas nearby, which can have frontage, include Coral Ridge (Ewa Gentry) Kula Lei
Municipal Golf Courses in Ewa Beach
The West Loch Golf Course and Ewa Villages Golf Course are both public, municipal courses in the more Northern areas of Ewa beach, closer to H-1, and each other on the opposing sides of Fort Weaver Road. West Loch is a low frills, 18 hole, par 72 course, without a pro shop or snack bar. Ewa Villages is an 18 hole, par 73 course, similarly without any extra amenities.
Neighborhoods nearby are the West Loch Estates and West Loch Fairways for the West Loch Golf Course. Only a few homes in these areas become a year, but most of the last sales have been in the $900K-$1.1M range. Homes fronting the Ewa Villages Course are mostly in the Ewa Villages neighborhood and inlcude the newer Golf Villas at Lokahi Greens, Historic Ewa Villages are near the Hoonani and
